As the designated Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Center for Napa County, our family consultation services are available to anyone in Napa County at no charge.
Napa Valley Hospice and Adult Day Services provides free family consultations to those who have concerns, questions or need guidance about a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or other dementia.
Family consultations are performed by one of licensed social workers and can be provided on-site at our facility or in the family / caregiver's home. If family members are not local, a conference call can also be arranged.
Consultations are beneficial for all family members involved in the care of a loved one with Alzheimer's or other dementia diagnosis. The consultation provides:
- Better understanding of the disease process
- What to expect as the disease progresses
- "How To" tools - to ensure safely, improve communication, and manage challenging behaviors
- Education and training manual for caregivers
- Referrals to individual counseling providers free drop-in support groups, local respite care providers
- Access to our up-to-date resource library on Alzheimer's disease, related dementias, and brain health
- Referrals to other experts at Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers for more comprehensive work-ups, if needed or desired
These services are provided through a grant from the Area Agency on Aging.
Additionally, we provide an alternative to institutionalization that meets the special needs of those with early to severe Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
Our services include:
- The highest standard and quality of dementia care for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.
- Activities designed for each individual's success and well-being.
- Evidence-based methods and trainings that allow participants and family caregivers to function at the best of their abilities.
- Strategies and services that delay the necessity of more restrictive placement into the hospital or nursing home environments.
- One-on-one counseling for members of the family providing care to someone with dementia.
- Professional development opportunities for staff in community agencies or live-in facilities.
- Bi-monthly educational events specific to Alzheimers disease and / or other dementias.
- Annual respite camp for people with dementia, which provides 48-hours of free respite to their caregivers. Our respite camp is held in April each year.
