Bereavement Services

Experiencing the death of a loved one may be one of the most difficult time in one's life. Our hospice program offers grief support for families of hospice patients as well as for community members who have experienced the loss of a loved one who had not received hospice care.

Bereavement services for families of hospice patients consist of phone consultations and individual counseling sessions for both anticipatory grief and bereavement support extending for 1 year after the death of their loved one.  We also encourage hospice family members to join one of our community grief support groups where they can safely express feelings related to their loss with others who understand and have had similar experiences.

Individual Counseling

We offer individual grief counseling through our Community Counseling Program. Community members are eligible to receive two individual grief counseling sessions at no cost.  Beyond the two free sessions, individuals may access additional grief counseling sessions by paying a fee.

Grief Support Groups

Grief support groups provide an understanding of the process of grief and offer participants a safe place to express feelings related to their loss.  Group members also experience the healing nature of the mutual support they feel with others who are going through similar experiences.

Most groups are offered at Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services, located at
414 South Jefferson Street in Napa. All groups are free and open to the public.

We also facilitate an extensive youth grief support program offered to students of all ages onsite at their own schools throughout Napa County. Facilitated by experienced bereavement counselors, these youth groups offer students both grief education and age appropriate counseling.  For more information regarding our Schools Grief Support Group Program, please call 258-9080 and ask for the Bereavement Department.
